About Me

Engineer · Builder · Cybersecurity

I'm a mechanical engineer turned software developer turned cybersecurity student. I like building real things: drones, smart plugs, aeroponic farms, websites and apps. I started a company in India, took it to Startup Chile, came to Canada and worked my way up from labourer to Construction Safety Officer, while freelancing as a developer on the side. Now I'm at BCIT studying Digital Forensics & Cybersecurity, and looking for my first security role.

Projects

Drone

A series of home-built aircraft I designed during my Mechanical Engineering degree. None of them flew, and I learned more from them than from anything that did.

- Built multiple versions over the course of my B.Tech, each one fixing what the last got wrong - Cut the foam aerofoil wings with a foam cutter I built at home - Spent a long time machining a twin swashplate mechanism out of aluminum - Learned about balsa wood, electric motors, ESCs, and the difference between centre of weight and centre of pressure

This version didn't fly. The modified versions after it didn't fly either.

Happy Plug

A WiFi smart plug that let you switch your room's lights and fan from your phone, built and sold door to door before smart plugs were common in India.

- Started with an IR remote to switch room lights and fans, then moved to an Android app talking to a WiFi microcontroller driving relays - Built the first working units and took them door to door to real homes - Redesigned the enclosure several times (thin, thick, square and triangle versions) to make it look like a product, then took it shop to shop - Designed stickers, packaging and three final models, and got it market ready - Pitched to shops and then a distributor, who asked for more testing before taking it on

Aeroponics (India)

Automated aeroponic growing systems I designed and built in India, then sold door to door. My first ever sales orders.

- Designed the systems in CAD, then built the frames, misting and pump systems by hand - Wrote the microcontroller firmware that controlled the nutrient cycles and sensors - Built and tested two complete systems - Took them door to door and got real orders, my first sales ever

Two working systems · First sales orders · Led to Startup Chile funding

Frieden Electric (Startup Chile)

Took the aeroponics company to Santiago on a Startup Chile grant, built two more systems, grew microgreens and gave free samples to local shops.

- Won a $15,000 grant from the Chilean government through Startup Chile, plus a one-year residency visa and co-working space in Santiago - Built two more aeroponic systems in Chile - Grew microgreens and gave free samples to local shops to find customers - Spoke to college students about the company

$15,000 grant · Startup Chile · PEC incubated · Rs 10 lakh award

Stirling Engine

We built a Stirling engine that makes electricity from a cooking fire, then presented it at an international conference in Paris.

- My friend K. S. Ghumman wanted to write a research paper. We decided to build a machine that generates electricity from cooking fire, and we did. - Built a thermodynamic model of the engine that accounts for convection heat transfer to the working fluid - Wrote two papers and presented both at the International Congress on Energy and Environment Engineering and Management, Paris, 22-24 July 2015

Oral presentation · Poster presentation · Paris 2015

Cybersecurity

Home Lab

A Windows domain and a Kali attack box running in VirtualBox on my own machine, so I can practise attacking and defending without touching anything real.

- Windows Server domain controller with Active Directory, DNS and DHCP - Windows 10/11 client joined to the domain, with a few test users and groups - Kali Linux attack box on the same virtual network - Snapshots of every machine so I can reset after each exercise

Phishing Email Analysis

Taking a real phishing email apart, header by header, to show how it tried to fool me and how to spot the next one.

- Pulled the full headers of a real phishing email I received - Traced the sending server, SPF/DKIM/DMARC results and the mismatched Reply-To - Unpacked the links without clicking them, using URL decoders and a sandbox - Wrote up the red flags a normal reader could have caught

What Does a Smart Plug Leak?

Capturing the network traffic of my own Happy Plug with Wireshark to see what a cheap IoT device gives away.

- Put the plug on an isolated network and captured its traffic with Wireshark - Looked at the WiFi provisioning, the MQTT messages and anything sent in plain text - Compared it with what a modern, properly secured device should do

USB Stick Forensics

Imaging an old USB stick and recovering its deleted files with Autopsy, the way a digital forensics investigation would.

- Created a forensic image of the USB stick with a write blocker and verified its hash - Loaded the image into Autopsy and recovered deleted files, timestamps and metadata - Documented the chain of custody and findings in a short report

Work Experience

Construction

Labourer

My first year in Canada. Started from the bottom, got paid every evening, and learned how a construction site actually works.

- General labour on construction sites across the Lower Mainland, a different site most days - The agency paid wages every evening, so every day was a fresh start and a fresh test - Worked hard, learned fast, and earned the trust that led to the next step up

Traffic Control Person

A year keeping traffic, pedestrians and crews safe around construction zones at more than ten sites.

- Regulated traffic around active construction sites - Kept pedestrians and workers safe in high-risk construction zones - Worked at over ten sites across the Lower Mainland

Construction Safety Officer

Keeping workers safe on construction sites: inspections, orientations, hazard control and incident investigations.

- Daily site inspections, spotting hazards and working with the trades to fix them on the spot - Running orientations so new workers know the site's rules and the dangers they might not see - Coordinating between trades to keep the site compliant with BC's Occupational Health and Safety Regulation - Investigating incidents, writing the reports and making sure corrective actions actually happen - Keeping the paperwork methodical and up to date, on Procore and on paper

Sales

After Chile, I realised I could build things but couldn't sell them. So I went and learned sales properly, first as a top-performing salesperson, then by training others.

- BYJU'S (ed-tech), 2018: sales for an education product. Ran counselling and sales sessions with parents. Top-performing salesperson across multiple sales cycles. - Delta School / ClickLabs, 2018 - 2020: senior sales role for a coding bootcamp. Taught junior salespeople how to pitch, monitored their daily call numbers, gave feedback, and made outreach calls myself.
